189) In One Day

These are pics from a shoot a few days ago. I was pretty happy with the diversity of shots we got, especially since it was all in one day.

I know there are a lot of people who will not be liking some of these photos because of the makeup. The purpose of such shots is to elicit some type of response from the viewer- perhaps an emotion, feeling, or something else.

188) Chu-suk

Chu-suk is one of the biggest holidays in Korea, it is the same as their Thanksgiving day.  Generally everyone visits their home-town and spends time with their families and that sort of thing.  Not having any family in Korea, and not being Korean, this holiday doesn't really mean much to me, but I look at it as a nice chance to relax.

A couple weeks ago I met an English girl named Laura, and recently she has started doing projects at the studio with us.  Saturday Laura, Sung Woo and I went to the studio and did some filming and then just hung out.

It turned out to be a really great evening, and a few other people stopped by to hang out and have dinner.  Patrick brought some food and cuban cigars, and we enjoyed that with some wine and conversation.  The weather was good and the company was great, it was an ideal Thanksgiving for me in a foreign land!

187) Some Shots

Here are just some shots that I have had laying around for a week or two. All of them are taken from the studio.

This month has been pretty good so far... last week I only had a three day work week, and next week will be a three day work week as well. I am grateful to have had lots of time to do other things besides teach and work (but still get paid!).

186) Roll 4

These are the highlights from roll number four, from my Contax (film camera). I adjusted the contrast slightly on all of these shots. I thought they looked a little too light (I am still learning how to use this camera!). It could have just been the lighting, or the settings or the film processing or scanning or something else. That is one of the interesting and challenging things about film, I guess.

This shot was taken by Nam ^

These are the rest of the images from roll number 3. All taken at the studio.

184) An Interesting Dish

I met up with some friends last night, and met some new friends.  First I met with Blue Jin and we went to an Allure party.  But she was running late, which made me late for another appointment with someone I hadn't yet met (one of the new friends).  I was supposed to meet my friend Sean's friend who is named Bora.  Sean is in NY modeling right now, but kinda set everything up.

Bora is studying photography in Paris and just back to Korea for summer break.  Blue Jin also used to live in Paris and is a photographer now- so I suggested Blue Jin come and meet Bora.  And she was surprised to find out that Sean had also planned for them to meet, but so far neither of them had the time.

Bora had also brought her friend Soo Huh, who turned out to be a really awesome guy.  So the four of us went out to eat, and after dinner Blue Jin had to go home, so the three of us went to a place described by Bora as very interesting.  She warned me the lady who owns the pub is a bit hard on the language.

Bora is friends with the owner, and she welcomed us warmly.  But about two minutes after arriving I heard someone ask for more water, and then some loud yelling proceeded from the owner.  I couldn't understand what she was saying (as I can only understand very limited amounts of Korean) but Bora explained: "bad word, bad word, bad word, bad word, get it yourself!"

We ordered some kind of special dish- at first glance it looked like a giant bowl of mixed fruit in water and ice.  But the lady who served us (quite large and unkempt) digs her bare hands into the bowl and starts mixing the food all together.  This revealed a lot more than just mixed fruit.  There seemed to be whatever was in the kitchen in there: crab, lettuce, shrimp all sorts of fruits and vegies, pasta, etc.  She really got her hands in there and mixed it all up (which was rather disgusting) and then cut it with scissors and went for round two with her hands and the mixing.  Then she rolled up a bunch of pasta and put an egg on top and hand fed it to Soo Huh.  I couldn't believe it, and after that was in his mouth she got a giant glob of that food ready for me, and hand fed me!  I nearly vomited because of how much food was jammed into my mouth, and having just had to watch her mix it all together with her hands and the laughter!  Anyways, that was one mean I don't think I will be forgetting any time soon!
