119) Colors of 11/4

These are pics from my favorite park, Seonyudo, and from an art museum. I was to meet my girlfriend, Su Bin, and her friend to go to an art museum to check out a video art exhibition. They got delayed so I stopped at Seonyudo first, and I am glad I did.

118) Elvis!!

This is a Halloween post…a little late. Anyways, yesterday was my schools Halloween party, and the end of the semester, so it was an unorganized and chaotic day full of screaming (and crying kids). My school has gotten pretty bad at giving any type of warning or notice about things. For example, I was told the day before I needed to come up with some sort of game for all the children to play… sounds easy, but in reality it can be a pain. So I decided to just play a game where the kids have to keep a balloon in the air. That had to be revised after a couple kids left crying because of injuries (with one bleeder), but nothing serious. Anyways, in the end I got no pictures (because of the chaos in my room) and was just happy for the day to be over.



The Saturday before (the 27th) there were some Halloween parties going on in Hongdae (not for kids). I was a little bummed out because I was not going to have a costume of any sort, but a fantastic stroke of luck came my way. I was working for the TV show that same day, and had the role or Elvis. To my surprise they had one great outfit, and one good one (although a little snug in the undercarriage… giving me a bit of a wedgie and camel toe…haha). Anyways, I was able to borrow the outfit and wore it to the parties on Saturday night! First Amber and Abbey met me at my house, and we got some food, and then went to see my friend DJ at a Club Tool. Later Chip met us at M2 and we had a pretty fun night!

117) Groovin’ at Evans

Last night I went to check out Groove House at Club Evans (I have written other entries about Groove House). Since the last entry I have become friends with some of the members of the band, which makes going to the show even more enjoyable.

I was sad to find out they will probably not be playing next month, which means I may not see them perform again. But the good news of that is the reason they may not be playing is because they will be recording for a CD. The other cool thing is CJ (my friend, the bass player) said they might want to use some of my photos! So that was exciting to hear. The whole band is very supportive of my pics, and I am really glad to do it!

116) My Second

The other day was my birthday. This is my second birthday in Korea, which feels kinda weird to say. Generally I don’t do much to celebrate, just hang out with some friends, and this one wasn’t too much different (hold the fact it was at a club).

Amber, who is an old friend of mine from high school just recently came to Korea, and we just started hanging out. So Amber, another American named Abbey and I went out for some calbi in Hongdae. After that we met my friend David at a great joint called Liquid. I know some people at Liquid, and David is good friends with a lot of people there, so we try to go there often. It has a great atmosphere and good music and the owners and workers are wonderful people. So we stayed there for a few hours and drank sangria and ate some snacks, and they brought over Crispy Creams at mid-night (that being officially my birthday).

After Liquid we went to M2, David’s club, and met some other friends there. One of the best parts of the night was my friend Paul. Paul is a friend from college, who just recently got married. He is German, and has been living in Germany since he finished teaching at my college. His wife is also German, (her mother is Korean and father is German), so for their honeymoon they are on a sort of tour of Asia, and stopped in Korea (having family here). They just got in that night and gave me a call and I met him and his wife at 2am at the subway station. We made our way back to the club and had a good time 'till the subs started running again. I didn’t get to spend as much time with him as I would have liked, but it was good to see him anyways, and hopefully we will meet up this week again.

115) National Assembly

The building in most of these pictures is the National Assembly Building in Yeouido, Seoul. On Saturday there was a firework display being held a park in Yeouido (which is an island on the Han River). I am not sure what the occasion was, but the firework show had three parts, apparently one by Korea, one by Japan, and one by the USA. The show was OK, but not at all great (although I was not in the best position to see).




On another note, the weather has been very enjoyable lately. Very nice days, and nights that have gotten quite cool. This is a great time to be in Korea in my opinion…but I suppose a great time to be in many countries! So wherever you are, make sure to enjoy the fall weather while it lasts!

114) Seoul Panorama

The other day Dave and I went out hiking in the southern part of Seoul. It was good to see Dave, and it was good to get out hiking (even though the sound of traffic was still clear).


I took this picture, a massive panorama of Seoul. I will be the first to admit I don’t know what I am doing when it comes to panorama shots, but it is something I would like to learn how to do! I think I will study up on it, and then get back out there during a sunset!

113) The Zoo

I went to the zoo today. About a week ago, Chip, his friend and I went. I almost had to write a blog specifically about that trip. Some of the people at the zoo were ridiculous. Throwing a bag of nuts to the gorillas, beating at the bear cage with a tripod, a lady teaching her child to feed the raccoons, and the list could go on and on.





Today I wasn’t surprised to find it pretty empty. When we went last week it was Chu-Seok (a big Korean holiday), but today was a regular workday, so it was pretty quiet.





Anyways, these are some of the better shots from today. I know it is kinda lame to take pictures at the zoo, but I have really wanted to use this lens, and it is good practice!

112) New Lens

I just got a new lens the other day. It is a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM, and if that means nothing to you, basically it is very nice zoom lens. I have been researching it for a couple months now, and decided I had to finally buy it. I wanted to have it well in advance of going to China, which I plan to do at the end of November or beginning of December.



These pictures are some sample shots with the lens I took today. I went to the same park I usually go to. I was surprised to see it absolutely filled with beautiful purple flowers. Hopefully I will be able to get back to the zoo sometime this week and play around with the lens some more!

These are some shots from the last two classes of the day. These kids are the oldest, but I think still just under kindergarten.
